Nationals | Gio Gonzalez uncovers mechanical flaw

Washington Nationals SP Gio Gonzalez has allowed 12 earned runs, 12 hits and seven walks in his last nine innings over two starts against the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets, and he's struggled with high pitch counts in all four of his starts this year. Gonzalez thinks he is rushing his delivery and approach on the mound. "Speeding up the process and not taking my time," he said. He thinks his arm slot is dropping below his usual arm slot and as a result, his control has suffered. Gonzalez's velocity has also been down around one mph from last year, but the cold weather could be a factor in that.

Fantasy Tip: It's positive that Gonzalez has identified a reason for his high pitch counts early this season, and he's already started working on fixing his arm slot with Steve McCatty. Note these attempted fixes when he makes his next outing to see if anything changes.
