Red Sox | Joel Hanrahan may not have job back
Boston Red Sox RP Joel Hanrahan (hamstring) has just resumed his throwing program, but he won't be eligible to return from the disabled list until at least April 29. However, when he returns, he isn't guaranteed to be given the closing role back. "I don't think we're sitting here today ready to make that claim," manager John Farrell said. "I think we've got to get through some things first, particularly how he responds with the hamstring. He's going to need a couple of (minor league) rehab appearances, just to get himself going again. This is a bigger-bodied guy that is a power pitcher, and we want to be sure that he feels comfortable physically before we bring him back to us and then we'll work through that at that time." Hanrahan threw from 75 feet Tuesday, April 16, and 90 feet Wednesday, April 17, and showed "no symptoms."
Fantasy Tip: The team hinted earlier that his mechanical problems were related to his most recent injury, so Boston may prefer to let him work those issues out in the minors and when he returns from the DL. Andrew Bailey needs to be owned in all leagues in case he excels in Hanrahan's absence and runs with the job.
