Cardinals | Adjusting approach to ninth

St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny and pitching coach Derek Lilliquist announced a "mild adjustment" on how they will handle ninth-inning duties Monday, April 15. RP Mitchell Boggs won't necessarily be out as the closer, but RP Edward Mujica is likely to see a save chance in the next few days. RP Trevor Rosenthal could, as well. Boggs pitched a scoreless ninth inning Monday, April 15, but it wasn't a save situation. "The relievers know we can't keep going along the same route. We've got to do figure out how to make the adjustments," Matheny said. Matheny basically acknowledged that the team will go with a closer-by-committee without saying those exact words.

Fantasy Tip: Boggs, Rosenthal and Mujica should all be owned. While Matheny is still listing Boggs as part of this so-called committee, he essentially lost the gig as closer, so it's hard to see him getting a huge share of this timeshare. Mujica could stick if he's successful in his early opportunities, but Rosenthal might be the best long-term bet if Jason Motte (forearm) is out for the season.
