Marlins | Joe Mahoney to get a shot at 1B
Miami Marlins manager Mike Redmond appears ready to give 1B Joe Mahoney (oblique) a shot at the first base job when he deems himself healthy. Mahoney began the year on the disabled list with an oblique injury but played in an extended spring game Wednesday, April 10, and will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Jupiter in the next few days. Mahoney hit .233 with one walk and nine strikeouts and a .258 on-base percentage in 30 spring training at-bats.
Fantasy Tip: Oblique injuries have a tendency to linger and cause setbacks, so don't consider Mahoney as close to returning as it may sound. If he does get the first crack at the starting first base job when he's healthy, he's nothing more than corner infield insurance in NL-only universes, however.
