Yankees | Mark Teixeira targeting May 1
New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (wrist) is hoping to return from the disabled list on May 1. He hopes to resume swinging a bat by the middle of April and go on a minor league rehab assignment around a week before his return to the Yankees. Teixeira is working on exercises to increase the strength in his wrist currently. "If it never gets better then I would have to have surgery," he said. "That's only if it never gets better. But it's progressively gotten better, at this point. Absolutely it has. I can tell if it hurts doing anything. There are lots of tests that the doctors can do. And if any of those tests hurt then I can't swing a bat yet."
Fantasy Tip: This will be taken with optimism for those that took the chance on drafting Teixeira, but he still has a long ways to go. The team and Teixeira will have to take his rehab slow, because any setback to his wrist could open up the chance that he'll need surgery, which would end his season. May 1 may be a tad too optimistic, but if he doesn't have a setback, expect to see him him at some point in early to mid-May.
