Padres | Andrew Cashner passes test
San Diego Padres SP Andrew Cashner (thumb) allowed one run, three hits and two walks over four-plus innings in a Cactus League spring start Tuesday, March 26. He threw 72 pitches with his velocity ranging from 94-97 miles per hour. "We like the fact he is healthy. The thumb is not an issue. He is throwing the ball well. He could be in the rotation or the pen, but the long-term plan is as a starter," manager Bud Black said. "The velocity was good today, the changeup was good."
Fantasy Tip: Cashner is worth a roster spot in NL-only fantasy leagues for his potential, but wait to see what role he is used to start the season. As a long reliever, he is only worth a look in deeper NL-only rotisserie formats for help in the ERA and WHIP categories. As a starter, his value is obviously much more.
