Angels | Ryan Madson adjusts after setback
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim RP Ryan Madson (elbow) had some tightness in his elbow after a bullpen session last week. As a result, he tweaked his exercise and throwing program, and he played long toss Tuesday, March 19, and is expected to throw off a mound again in the next few days. Madson will start on the disabled list, but the team is hoping he can pitch in games in late April. "I definitely feel a lot stronger than I did when I was throwing in January," Madson said Tuesday. "The elbow is strong, more healthy, more mature. The intensity level is where I've run into problems. It's tightened up a little bit after the bullpens, and we're trying to figure out why." Manager Mike Scioscia thinks it's part of the normal recovery process.
Fantasy Tip: Based on Madson's slow recovery process this spring, it would not be a shock if he's not ready until sometime in May. Ernesto Frieri should be owned in all formats as a result, even if he has just over a month's worth of save opps.
