Cardinals | Chris Carpenter not optimistic

St. Louis Cardinals SP Chris Carpenter (shoulder) doesn't think he can return to pitch after his latest setback. "There has been no change," Carpenter said. "There is some everyday stuff that is going on that is affecting me a little bit. Right now I'm just enjoying my time with my family. ... I was planning on playing, on being a part of this team and make the choice at the end of the year whether I wanted to keep playing or not." He still has numbness in his shoulder at times, and he said he will not go through another surgery. Carpenter will seek more medical advice when he returns home to St. Louis.

Fantasy Tip: It appears as though Carpenter is leaning toward calling it a career at this point. Don't expect to have him as a late-season rotation option.
