Yankees | Mark Teixeira has torn tendon sheath
Updating previous reports, New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira (wrist) has a torn tendon sheath, rather than a strained wrist, and could miss the entire season in a worst-case scenario. However, the team still expects him to heal without needing to undergo surgery and expects him to rejoin the team after 8-10 weeks of recovery time. Teixeira injured his right wrist while hitting off a tee practicing with Team USA for the World Baseball Classic but does not blame the event. Instead, he believes that the injury may have resulted from overuse; as a switch-hitter, he takes a lot of swings from both sides of the plate during the offseason. "I might have to take a step back from that," he said.
