Cowboys | Tony Romo could receive contract extension in March

Cowboys | Tony Romo could receive contract extension in MarchThe Dallas Cowboys plan to sign QB Tony Romo, who turns 33 in April, to a contract extension this month that may keep him with the Cowboys for the rest of his career. He has one season left on his contract and counts a team-high $16.8 million against the 2013 salary cap. A long-term extension could cut that cap number in half.

The only talk around the team surrounding the quarterback position is working out a new deal with him. The Cowboys are not looking to replace Romo; instead, they plan to build around him and would like to upgrade their offensive line to give him more time in the pocket and an improved running game.

Fantasy Tip: Romo is coming off another sound season, which saw him toss 28 touchdowns and 4,903 passing yards while completing 65.6 percent of his passes. He did, however, tie a career-high with 19 interceptions. An improved offensive line and running game would help take pressure off of him and could help improve his numbers across the board. He remains a mid-range QB1 entering 2013.
