Mets | Pressed to add payroll
The Major League Baseball Players Association has asked the New York Mets to increase their payroll from the current level of $95 million, saying New York needs a competitive National League team. Mets owner Fred Wilpon said the team will raise its payroll shortly and that the payroll needed to be lowered briefly to service team debt.
