Cubs | Matt Garza has mild strain
Updating previous reports, Chicago Cubs SP Matt Garza (lat) has a mild strain where his lat meets his oblique. He'll rest for about a week, but it's too early to say whether he'll be ready for the season, according to general manager Jed Hoyer.
Fantasy Tip: Carlos Villanueva may get his wish and begin the season in the rotation. Garza hasn't been very durable in recent history, and the Cubs would really love to trade him before the deadline. We see them playing it safe with him, and putting him on the DL to open the season. Villanueva probably has more real-life value than fantasy value, and he has pitched better from the bullpen than the rotation in recent years. He's basically an NL-only commodity at this point. We don't want you to completely shy away from Garza, but this injury, along with the lackluster team around him really haunts his fantasy outlook for at least the first half of the season.
