Mets | Bobby Parnell wants to close

New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell said his ultimate goal is to become a closer in the major leagues. He said the knuckle-curveball that he learned late in 2011 was a key to his success last season. "It's true. It helped me a lot," Parnell said. "It kept hitters off-balance. And I was able to throw fastballs in situations where other times they would have been hit because they were sitting on fastballs. I was able to throw that curveball early in the count and it kept hitters off-balance." His slight velocity dip last year was also intentional, as he felt he didn't need to overthrow and reach triple digits to be successful.
