Tigers | Alex Avila optimistic about knee
Detroit Tigers C Alex Avila (knee) is optimistic that his cranky left knee won't affect his performance this year, and he continues to think that he should be a regular catcher. "I am an everyday catcher. I expect to play every single day," said Avila, who ended last season in a platoon situation with C Gerald Laird. "I mean, what's going to dictate that is my play, and that's my job. That's how I look at it. I plan on catching a lot of games this year." Part of the reason he entered into a timeshare down the stretch last year was because of his .176 average and 30 strikeouts in 85 at-bats against left-handed pitching. Avila received platelet-rich plasma injections shortly after the World Series ended, and he said it has had great results.
