Twins | Kyle Gibson in plans for this year
Minnesota Twins general manager Terry Ryan said it's a good bet that SP Kyle Gibson (elbow) factors into the team's plans at some point this season. "Yeah, I would say that's a safe assessment," Ryan said. "He certainly has enough ability. He's mature enough. I think he's strong enough physically and mentally. At some point in 2013 you're going to see him pitch for us." Gibson is fully recovered from Tommy John surgery and will compete for the No. 5 starting spot in spring training. He had his surgery Sept. 7 of 2011, and the team would like him to throw 100-130 innings this year. Gibson is open to pitching in relief if the team wants to use him there. He didn't report any setbacks while pitching in the Arizona Fall League although he did struggle with command. Now that he's healthy, Gibson wants to refine his mechanics and add an offspeed pitch to complement his fastball-slider repertoire.
