The Boston Red Sox are discussing two- and three-year deals with free-agent 1B Adam LaRoche (Nationals) as a backup plan in case their deal with C/1B Mike Napoli falls through. LaRoche is standing firm on his wish for a three-year contract. Twenty-four days have passed since Boston initially agreed to terms with Napoli, but the deal remains unofficial.
