Red Sox | Mark Melancon experienced increase in velocity

By the end of the 2012 season, Boston Red Sox RP Mark Melancon was throwing several miles per hour faster than he had at the beginning of the year. In his final appearance of the year against the New York Yankees Oct. 2, Melancon's fastball averaged 94.3 mph, his cutter averaged 94 mph and his curveball averaged 82.9 mph. In his first game of the season against the Detroit Tigers April 6, his fastball averaged 92.6 mph, while his curveball averaged 82 mph.
