Blue Jays | Team agrees in principle to trade for R.A. Dickey

The Toronto Blue Jays and New York Mets have agreed in principle on a seven-player trade that would send SP R.A. Dickey, C Josh Thole and a minor leaguer to the Blue Jays and C Travis d'Arnaud, C John Buck, P Noah Syndergaard and a minor leaguer to the Mets. A 72-hour negotiating window has been opened for the Blue Jays to extend Dickey's contract, which would complete the deal. Toronto has until 2 p.m. EST Tuesday, Dec. 18, to finalize an extension.

Fantasy Tip: Dickey joins a completely revamped Blue Jays rotation that includes Josh Johnson and Mark Buehrle, who came over in the blockbuster deal with the Miami Marlins. Dickey's Cy Young season will raise his draft price. His skills are real and his ability to eat innings will continue to helpful, but expect some regression in his numbers, especially with the move to the potent AL East.

d'Arnaud missed the end of last year in the minors with a knee injury, but he's expected to be healthy and will probably enter spring training with a chance to compete with Buck for the starting gig. He makes a nice target for NL-only leagues or setups that allow you to play two catchers because of his potential for double-digit homers.

Thole should split time with J.P. Arencibia, but his steady drop in contact rate makes it unrealistic to expect him to aid you in BA. Thole's lack of power and likely drop in at-bats makes him AL-only material.

Syndergaard has potential to be a high-end piece to the starting rotation, but his MLB debut is a ways off. Only keeper-leaguers should know his name, for now.
