Mets | David Wright has deferred money in contract

The New York Mets will defer $15.5 million of the $138 million owed to 3B David Wright in his eight-year extension, according to sources with knowledge of the contract. However, the deferred dollar amount was much higher and was reduced from the amount the team initially wanted deferred. The team will defer $3 million of his $11 million salary next year and then $2.5 million will be deferred annually from 2014 through 2018. Wright will make $11 million next year, $20 million in each of the following five years, then $15 million in 2019 and $12 million in 2020. He can receive extra money for award bonuses.
