Indians | Mark Reynolds signs
Free-agent 3B Mark Reynolds (Orioles), who spent the past two seasons as a starting corner infielder with the Baltimore Orioles, has agreed to terms on a one-year deal worth $6 million plus incentives with the Cleveland Indians, according to an industry source. Reynolds hit .221 with 23 homers and 69 RBIs in 135 games last year after a 2011 season in which he hit a team-leading 37 homers in 155 games.
Fantasy Tip: While a drop of 14 home runs from 2011 to 2012 should raise question marks, Reynolds' signing instantly brings credibility to the right side of the Indians infield. Carlos Santana, Casey Kotchman and Matt LaPorta manned first base last season, which is where Reynolds is projected to end up. Reynolds remains a solid middle-tier option once all the good first basemen have come off the board. Bonus points for Lonnie Chisenhall, whose development at third won't be stunted by the signing of someone else.
