Phillies | Michael Young waives clause
Texas Rangers 3B Michael Young has agreed to waive his no-trade clause and will be traded to the Philadelphia Phillies. Young will receive $1.2 million in benefits for waiving the clause and will receive a full no-trade clause from the Phillies. Young has told the Phillies he does not want a contract extension. The Rangers have agreed to pay $10 million of the $16 million still owed to Young.
Fantasy Tip: Young likely will have some value in drafts next season because he will be the Phillies' everyday third baseman. He has been a solid producer in terms of his batting average during his career but has seen his home run total decline each of the last two years. He will not be one of the first third basemen taken in drafts but could be an option in later rounds to fill a third baseman, corner infielder or utility spot on a team.
