49ers | Could deal Alex Smith in offseason
The San Francisco 49ers could be open to dealing QB Alex Smith during the offseason. He signed a three-year, $24 million contract with the team in the offseason. That reasonable contract gives the team options. If he is on the team's roster April 1, 2013, his entire $7.5 million base salary becomes fully guaranteed. He is currently the 20th-highest-paid quarterback in the NFL, which might make him an attractive option to a team in need of a QB. If he is released before April 1, the team would still owe him $1 million.
