MLB | Russell Martin to play shortstop in WBC?

Free-agent C Russell Martin (Yankees) is receptive to the idea of playing shortstop for Team Canada in the World Baseball Classic. "If it's something that would help the team, I am willing to do it," Martin said. "I told (head coach Greg Hamilton) I want to do it, and he said he's open to it." Martin has never played shortstop in the majors but considers it his natural position, after having played shortstop and third base in high school and college. Team Canada does not have a major league shortstop on its roster but also has George Kottaras of the Oakland Athletics available to catch.
