Patriots | Aaron Hernandez may not replace Rob Gronkowski
New England Patriots TEs Rob Gronkowski (forearm) and Aaron Hernandez (ankle) play two different positions within the team's offense. There is the traditional "Y" position, who is 6-foot-5 or taller, at least 255 pounds, can run but absolutely must be a standout blocker. He has to be a viable receiver, but not a great one. There is also the "F" or flex tight end, who is 6-foot-3 or taller, around 235 pounds, must be able to run and be an excellent pass receiver. He does not need to be a good blocker. If the team wants to stick with that system while Gronkowski is out, TEs Michael Hoomanawanui and Daniel Fells could fill Gronkowski's "Y" position, while Hernandez and TE Visanthe Shiancoe would serve as the flex tight ends.
