Athletics | Minor league pitching coach leaves for New York

Minor-league pitching instructor Gil Patterson, a key figure in the development of many of the Oakland Athletics pitchers, is leaving the A's organization after six seasons to become the New York Yankees' director of pitching. Patterson, who had been a player and a minor-league coach with the Yankees, said by phone that his new position will allow him to work full time in Tampa, Fla., where his family lives.
