Pirates | Targeting catcher, pitcher on market
The Pittsburgh Pirates figure to add to their $61.375 million payroll next season, but the combined salaries of 3B Pedro Alvarez and six players already under contract for 2013 — SP A.J. Burnett, SP Wandy Rodriguez, OF Andrew McCutchen, SS Clint Barmes and OF Jose Tabata — will account for $27.7 million. Re-signing a handful of the team's eight arbitration-eligible players will require about $20 million. What is left will likely go toward two areas of particular interest for the Pirates, starting pitcher and catcher.
