Red Sox | Extend offer to David Ortiz
The Boston Red Sox extended a $13.3 million qualifying offer to free-agent DH David Ortiz Friday, Nov. 2, assuring that they'll receive draft-pick compensation should he sign elsewhere. However, the two sides are "very close" to agreeing on a two-year deal, according to a source close to negotiations. The team didn't extend offers to free-agent OF Scott Podsednik, OF Cody Ross, SP Aaron Cook, SP Daisuke Matsuzaka, SP Vicente Padilla or 1B James Loney.
