Red Sox | Not close to deal with David Ortiz

The Boston Red Sox are not close to reaching a deal with DH David Ortiz, but the gap between what the team has offered could shrink in the coming days and hours, according to a major league source. Unless something happens quickly, though, Ortiz could choose to test the free-agent waters. Ortiz is looking for two years and close to the $14.75 million he made last year. Boston is expected to make a qualifying offer of $13.3 million to ensure that they will receive a draft pick if Ortiz signs elsewhere.
