Mariners | Justin Smoak has new hitting technique
Seattle Mariners 1B Justin Smoak is having a disappointing season, but he's optimistic finishing the season after adopting a new hitting technique which involves keeping his hands on the bat during his left-handed swings rather than a one-handed follow-through, and that approach has led to better at-bats recently. Smoak also plans to get stronger in the offseason. "I have to put the work in this offseason, get where I want to be, find something that works," Smoak said. "Right now, I'm at a point where I feel like things are going to turn around." General manager Jack Zduriencik said Smoak hasn't yet played himself out of the team's plans, but Smoak knows time is running out to prove himself. He feels that his new swing is an approach that will keep him shorter to the ball and make him more successful.
