Steelers | Rashard Mendenhall cleared for contact
Pittsburgh Steelers RB Rashard Mendenhall (knee) is progressing from offseason knee surgery and has been cleared to take contact in practice for the first time this week, according to head coach Mike Tomlin. "We'll thud him up a little bit the day we're allowed to carry our pads," Tomlin said. The Steelers rank 30th in the league in overall rushing yardage (141) and average yards per carry (2.6) after the first two weeks.
Fantasy Tip: Mendenhall owners have to be happy, but temper your expectations. Pittsburgh isn't saying when he'll start in a game, and when he does, it may take him some time to get up to full speed. See Jamaal Charles.
Until Mendenhall is carrying the full load and is up to full speed, Isaac Redman and Jonathan Dwyer are desperation flex plays in deep enough leagues. It may be best to avoid this situation at all costs right now.
