Cubs | Alfonso Soriano clears waivers

Chicago Cubs OF Alfonso Soriano has cleared trade waivers and is eligible to be traded anywhere if he gives approval, according to sources. The San Francisco Giants may look to add him after OF Melky Cabrera was hit with a 50-game suspension Wednesday, Aug. 15. The Tampa Bay Rays have looked at Soriano, too. Soriano rejected a trade to San Francisco before the July 31 non-waiver deadline, but it's unknown if he would be willing to change his stance. However, he's unlikely to accept a trade to San Fran because he doesn't like the weather, and he's believed to prefer the East Coast. RP Carlos Marmol also cleared waivers.
