Cowboys | Jason Witten to miss rest of preseason
Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten (spleen) suffered a spleen injury in the team's preseason opener and will miss the rest of the preseason, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. At this time, it's not believed that surgery will be required; however, it hasn't completely been ruled out. Witten has not yet been ruled out for Week 1.
Fantasy Tip: Any case of internal bleeding complicates a recovery timetable, and surgery would probably sideline him indefinitely. The uncertainty of Witten's Week 1 availability could push him down draft boards and, even with the risk involved, eventually make him a value by default, particularly if it happens in PPR formats.
If you draft him, it's best to take a capable backup sooner than you normally would, regardless of format. John Phillips and rookie James Hanna, the replacements if Witten were to miss time, shouldn't receive draft attention.
