Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said OF Carl Crawford is unlikely to serve as the designated hitter because he wants his outfielder to become more comfortable in left field. Crawford playing the outfield also allows Valentine to keep INF Pedro Ciriaco's bat in the lineup as the DH.
