Angels | Ervin Santana afforded one more chance
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim manager Mike Scioscia said Sunday, July 22, that SP Ervin Santana will remain in the rotation for at least one more start. Scioscia will limit Santana to 15 outs Friday, July 27, something he has done in the past with former SPs Scott Kazmir and Aaron Sele. Santana is 4-10 with a 6.00 ERA and he has given up 23 homers, second most in the majors. "We're in a position right now that we need production from our rotation. We need Ervin to pitch like he can and, hopefully, peeling him back to 15 outs will be a positive for him," Scioscia said.
Fantasy Tip: If you have not already pulled the plug on Santana, definitely do so this week in all but the very deepest of AL-only formats. He won't go more than five innings, so his fantasy production will be limited even if he is somewhat successful. The team is looking for pitching help at the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, so it wouldn't be surprising to see Santana finally shuttled to the bullpen.
