Diamondbacks | Trevor Bauer's groin played a part
Arizona Diamondbacks SP Trevor Bauer (groin) believes his lingering groin issue led to the degradation of his repertoire. "The cumulative effect, the mental side of things – you hurt your groin and your body doesn't want to push it as much," Bauer said. "My mechanics changed. I got healthy, so I was trying to get my mechanics back to where they needed to be so I could executive everything. They're so inconsistent right now." Bauer's velocity isn't what it was while he pitched for Double-A Mobile, and his breaking pitch was wildly inconsistent. His fastball was 91-93 mph in the bigs, while he was sitting in the mid-90s in the minors.
Manager Kirk Gibson thinks Bauer has plenty to work on as he heads back down to the minors. "I just chalk it up as he needs more seasoning. I think he'll be back. I remember when we sent (Bryan) Shaw back last year and he came back and he was outstanding. Trevor is highly motivated. He understands. He wants to pitch. He wants to work on his stuff and get better."
