Orioles | Jason Hammel placed on disabled list

Updating previous reports, the Baltimore Orioles have placed SP Jason Hammel (knee) on the 15-day disabled list because of discomfort in his right knee. He will undergo surgery to remove loose cartilage from the knee Monday, July 16, in a procedure performed by team physician Dr. John Wilckens. Hammel will head to Sarasota, Fla. to rehab the injury about a week after the surgery and thinks he can return in three to four weeks, although manager Buck Showalter believes he won't be back until early September.
