Lions | Matthew Stafford might be in line for new deal
The five-year, $100 million contract signed by New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees might play a part in the not-too-distant future for the Detroit Lions and QB Matthew Stafford. Stafford is nine years younger and not nearly as accomplished as Brees, but the two are represented by the same agent in Tom Condon. Stafford has two years left on his rookie contract, but after converting the bulk of his base pay to signing bonuses the past two years, Stafford does have a cumbersome salary-cap number of $20 million in 2013, and $19 million in 2014. That means the Lions might try signing him to a long-term extension next spring.
