Padres | Micah Owings wants to return as position player
San Diego Padres P Micah Owings (forearm) will report to the organization's Rookie-level affiliate Monday, July 9, in Peoria, Ariz., to begin his journey back to the major leagues as a position player. He will play two or three games in Arizona before joining Triple-A Tucson, playing first base, left field and designated hitter. Owings, who has been on the 60-day disabled list with a strained right forearm since May 8, has taken longer than expected to heal from his injury and doesn't think he will be able to pitch anytime soon.
