Rays | Jeremy Hellickson to the DL
The Tampa Bay Rays placed SP Jeremy Hellickson (shoulder) on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, June 19, with right shoulder fatigue. In a corresponding move, the team recalled SP Chris Archer, and he'll make his major league debut Wednesday. Hellickson is pain-free but is dealing with "weakness."
Fantasy Tip: The control-happy Hell Boy's 3.45 ERA hides some issues, namely his once again bland 5.97 K/9 and a 13.2 HR/FB. His June struggles could be related to his shoulder woes, but he lives on the edge normally anyway by pitching to contact. Maybe he'll rebound after resting. Stash him, but even when he gets back to 100 percent, don't expect much to change about his profile.
Archer, 23, was scuffling to a 4.81 ERA and 5.28 BB/9 at Triple-A Durham, but he's fanned 90 in 76 2/3 frames there and remains one of the best prospects in Tampa Bay's strong system. AL and cavernous mixed scavengers should consider him for a trial, though his rotation stint will depend on Hellickson's health and might last only a few outings. If that's the case, he lines up to face the Washington Nationals and Kansas City Royals - solid matchups on paper.
