Pirates | Working on deal for Mark Appel
Pittsburgh Pirates general manager Neal Huntington said Sunday, June 10, that he is not looking at the $2.9 million slot amount for first-round choice SP Mark Appel as an unbreakable limit. "It's a jumping-off point," Huntington said. "It is not a set, steadfast number." If the Pirates do not sign Appel by July 13, the Pirates will get a compensation pick in the first round next year.
