Red Sox | Bobby Valentine optimistic on Dustin Pedroia

Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine is optimistic that 2B Dustin Pedroia (thumb) will be able to avoid the disabled list. "I don't think the DL is going to be in the cards for him. That being said, he's not ready to play just yet, so we're playing - as they say - a man short." Valentine isn't sure when Pedroia will play again, but he said he's gripping a bat and the swelling is down.
