Buccaneers | Doug Martin likely feature back
Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie RB Doug Martin, one of the team's first-round selections, is likely to be the team's feature running back in his first season. Martin is an all-around back with two 1,000-yard seasons under his belt. He also caught 28 passes each of the past two seasons.
Running backs are rarely taken in the first round to ride the pine, so Martin is likely to immediately leap past RB LeGarrette Blount on the team's depth chart. Bucs head coach Greg Schiano has sent out hints that the team wants to run the ball and has implied Blount's pass protection and fumbles could be liabilities for the team.
Tampa Bay gave up second- and fourth-round selections to trade back into the first round to acquire Martin at 31st overall.
