Yankees | Brett Gardner lands on DL
The New York Yankees placed OF Brett Gardner (elbow, arm) on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, April 18, due to a bruised left elbow and strained arm muscle. "We will have to sit him down for a while," manager Joe Girardi said. "We'll try to get him back after 15 days." The team recalled RP Cody Eppley from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in a corresponding move.
Fantasy Tip: Luckily, there don't appear to be fractures or other structural damage, so this could be a short-term stint. Expect the Yanks to sub for Gardner with a combo of Raul Ibanez, Andruw Jones and Eduardo Nunez.
Ibanez has proven to be serviceable deep-mixed outfield depth but isn't as strong a play against lefty arms. Jones and Nunez are primarily AL-only fare, but versus southpaws, Jones can be a deep-mixed matchup play. In those same structures, Nunez, who's eligible at third base, shortstop and, depending on format, second base, could aid desperate middle-infielder seekers.
