Nationals | Brad Lidge confident in his ability

Washington Nationals RP Brad Lidge, who has had an excellent spring, is confident he can still be effective in the ninth inning with RP Drew Storen (elbow) sidelined. "We all know he's the closer. Hopefully it won't take him that long. (But) obviously I'd be happy to have that role. I still feel in my mind when I'm healthy that's something I love to do, and I'm very happy to do it. I definitely would love to have an opportunity to do that," Lidge said. Lidge and RP Henry Rodriguez are the two closing options with Storen out, but Lidge has the upper hand with his experience.

Lidge is happy with his fastball velocity in spring training, and he hit 91-92 mph on the radar gun Tuesday, March 27. He is confident that he will have more velocity on his pitches than he did last year when he leaned heavily on his slider.
