Cardinals | Jason Motte a candidate to close next year
St. Louis Cardinals RP Jason Motte will likely be a strong candidate to close for the team in 2012. His surge this year began in mid June after he developed a combination slider-cutter. "It's encouraging," general manager John Mozeliak says. "He's growing into a role people envisioned him having a few years back. He's got a powerful arm. He's starting to get confidence in his secondary pitches. It's exciting to see." The other candidates include RPs Fernando Salas, Kyle McClellan, Lance Lynn, Mitchell Boggs, Brandon Dickson and Eduardo Sanchez.
