Pirates | Clint Hurdle trying to spread bullpen workload around
Pittsburgh Pirates manager Clint Hurdle decided to use RP Tim Wood during the ninth inning of a game against the Washington Nationals Friday, July 1, because he felt that RPs Chris Resop and Jose Veras needed a break. "Resop and Veras have been in 40 games," he said. "They can't pitch every night. I've got to have other guys contribute. Also, I felt he could get them out. You've got to pick your poison on where you want to go from there." Wood (0-3), who has only thrown 7 2/3 innings this season, allowed one run on two hits and a walk over one-third of an inning and was tagged with the loss Friday.
