Cowboys | Hope to keep Doug Free
The Dallas Cowboys are hoping to retain impending free-agent OT Doug Free this year. He is a free agent under the old system, but under the new system in place since last year, a player becomes an unrestricted free agent after six years.
"I don't want to speak for Doug, but hopefully he's enjoyed being here," team executive Stephen Jones said. "He's obviously a priority for us. We want to sign Doug back. We think he's a very productive offensive tackle for us. He'll be our No. 1 priority when things start up it's to get him signed up."
As of Tuesday, April 26, the Cowboys have a league-high $134 million committed in player salaries. It hasn't been determined what the 2011 salary cap will be if a new collective bargaining agreement is reached. The team is determined to reduce its salary cap this year.
