Angels | Pitching coach undergoes surgery

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim pitching coach Mike Butcher underwent surgery earlier this week to remove a cancerous nodule on his thyroid gland, according to The Orange County Register's Bill Plunkett. The surgery was performed on Thursday, Feb. 10, in Arizona after an earlier biopsy determined the growth was cancerous. Butcher had gone to his doctor with some concerns about his neck and was sent to a specialist who performed the biopsy and determined surgery was necessary. The surgery has been deemed successful and Butcher is expected to resume his duties with the Angels this week.
