The New York Mets are expected to announce shortly after the season that manager Jerry Manuel and general manager Omar Minaya will not return for the 2011 season, according to SI.com's Jon Heyman. The official announcement will likely be made before the start of the playoffs Wednesday, Oct. 6. The team is planning to go outside the organization for a general manager candidate and are thought to be considering former general manager Josh Byrnes, Chicago White Sox assistant general manager Rick Hahn and former general manager Sandy Alderson. Minor league manager Wally Backman has been mentioned as an in-house candidate for the managerial position. Former manager Bobby Valentine is also expected to be discussed.
