Cubs | Lou Piniella to retire Sunday
Chicago Cubs manager Lou Piniella has announced that he will retire after the game Sunday, Aug. 22, in order to spend more time with his family, according to The Associated Press. "I need to be home," Piniella said. "My circumstances have changed a heck of a lot the last year, especially the last month or so. I just need to be home. I'm concerned about my mom. I love baseball but I love my family. When you talk about your family, it's a little more important than baseball, it's a lot more important." The 66-year-old Piniella missed four games earlier this month to visit his ailing mother in Florida and had initially planned to step down at the end of the season. Third base coach Mike Quade will serve as the interim manager.
